Regarding the issue of supply of and demand for opiates used for medical purposes, the Commission welcomed the joint activities undertaken by WHO and the International Narcotics Control Board to facilitate the treatment of pain using opioid analgesics. Governments were urged to ensure that opioids were available to patients who required them.
